What ISO 19011 provides
ISO 19011 gives a common framework for audit principles, managing audit programmes, conducting management system audits and evaluating auditor competence. It can support internal and external audits of quality, environmental and other management systems.

An important distinction
ISO 19011 is guidance, not a certifiable standard. It helps organisations plan and conduct consistent, effective audits but does not itself lead to certification.
